Job Description:
The Calgary office has an opening for a physical hydrogeologist or engineer with particular expertise in analytical and numerical modelling of groundwater flow and solute transport processes. This position is within our Hydrogeology group, which supports a wide variety of water resources, land development, and environmental projects.
Responsibilities:
Specific work may include but not be limited to:
• Development and application of analytical and numerical groundwater models as required to support: Municipal water supply development; regional groundwater resource evaluations; and environmental impact assessments;
• Collection, management, and interpretation of hydrogeological information. This would include providing insight on the design, implementation, and completion of field investigation programs – and suitable methods for interpreting the data; and
• Preparation of written reports and client/project management.
Job Requirements:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Hydrogeology or Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
• Strong quantitative skills and academic knowledge of physical hydrogeology and structural geology;
• Practical field experience including borehole logging, monitoring well installations, hydraulic conductivity testing and pump testing;
• Experience with industry-standard numerical and analytical modelling packages (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW, GMS);
• Strong computer skills, including working with GIS-type software, digital databases, visualization software, etc.;
• Five years relevant experience is preferred, but consideration will be given to strong candidates who may not fulfill this requirement;
• Strong interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and leadership skills are essential; and,
• Academic qualifications which give the candidate eligibility for professional registration in Alberta (APEGGA).
