Job Description:
This full-time role will be mainly involved with managing the current local Health and Safety Team of four staff and providing guidance in the H&S field to our Calgary office. The Calgary Health and Safety Advisor will support the development of effective safety practices and procedures for the Calgary office and our affiliated off-site labs/offices which total approximately 750 staff members.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Act as a resource to management on the alignment of office H&S initiatives with Regional & National objectives
Maintain documentation related to National, Regional and local H&S programs
Assist the Project Managers and the Prairies Regional H&S Leader in the investigation of incidents when required
Work with HR regarding H&S orientation and training, managing WCB claims, policies, information and administration
Coordinate and conduct H&S training and maintain up to date documentation at the office level
Act as a resource to the Calgary Joint Health and Safety Committee
Assist Group H&S representatives to address concerns: preparation of site specific H&S plans, site inspections, emergency drills, hazard assessments, etc
Coordinate regular site safety inspections
Post safety policies, bulletins and posters in the office to support a safe work environment
Collect/compile monthly safety statistics
Act as a resource in the development and updating of emergency response plans
Coordinate annual medical exams, hearing tests, etc
Act as a resource in the development of Control Measures as needed
Job Requirements:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in related fields
Professional Designation in Occupational Health and Safety (CRSP, CIH, or ROH) preferred.
Minimum of 5 years experience in H&S, specializing in development of Management Systems
Experience with Project Management organizations and/or consulting companies, preferred
Good understanding of the Partnerships Audit Tool and PIR Program
Very good knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access
Good organizational skills ( record keeping, time management and follow-up)
Excellent, communication and presentation skills
Good problem solver with the ability to identify alternative solutions
Self starter with the ability to work in a collegial environment
