Job Description:
The successful candidate will join our growing Contaminated Sites team serving a major Client in the oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field work related to monitoring, investigating and remediating contaminated sites impacted with hydrocarbons (diesel, gasoline, crude oil etc.), salts and metals. It is expected the candidate will be self-motivated, and will demonstrate strong time management and communication skills. Duties will include but are not necessarily limited to:
Responsibilities:
• Identifying potential and existing site hazards. Preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to Golder's clients, employees and the public;
• Reporting all health and safety concerns, incidents and near miss events and participating in all office-lead health and safety initiatives;
• Maintaining excellent field notes and collecting and handling soil and groundwater samples;
• Supervision of subcontractors for ground disturbance and utility location, surveying, borehole drilling, groundwater monitoring well installation and test pit excavation;
• Oversight of remedial contractors including directing remedial excavations, waste tracking and progress reporting;
• Field preparation and equipment maintenance; and
• Filing and management of all project related field notes including some data entry and assistance with report preparation.
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
• A diploma in environmental engineering/technology, geology, hydrogeology or related earth sciences.
• A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work with little supervision;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with particular attention to detail and accuracy of field notes;
• Awareness of health and safety issues and a safety conscious attitude;
• A valid driver’s license;
• Previous experience with soil and groundwater sampling; and
• ASET or CEPIT certification, or eligibility for certification, is an asset.
You will be expected to adhere to safe working practices both in the field and in the office. The nature of the field work associated with the position will require the following:
• Working in a team environment and alone at sites across Alberta;
• The ability to bend, lift and carry field equipment, up to 50 lbs; and
• The ability to travel and work in unpredictable/varied weather conditions including the ability to hike on and around uneven and sloped terrain.
