Job Description:
GAIA Contractors is seeking an Estimator for its Calgary office. The role includes taking responsibility for developing and pricing new project opportunities both independently and with the support of other GAIA operating centres and in conjunction with personnel from GAIA’s parent company Golder Associates Ltd., as well as assisting with the management and delivery of technically challenging ground engineering, mining, water resource and environmental remediation projects, Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: • Preparation of cost estimates using estimating software; • Preparation of cost proposals to both internal and external clients; • Review of estimates prepared by other Project and Construction Managers; • Review of contractual agreements, terms and conditions for subcontracts, major supply agreements and client contracts; • Preparation and management of construction schedules using precedence network scheduling methods; • Management and development of project cost control systems • Application of GAIA’s risk management procedures and protocols for all cost estimates, subcontracts and client contracts and proposals prepared in BC; and • Application of GAIA’s ISO 9001:2000 Quality Assurance program at the project level • Qualification in civil engineering quantity surveying or related discipline with at least 3 - 5 years relevant work experience; • Experience in construction estimating, scheduling, cost control and contract management; • Well versed in contractual agreements and risk assessment; • Experience in the management of earthworks, civil engineering or environmental remediation projects including health and safety; • Experience with specialized mining, ground engineering or environmental remediation projects would be considered an asset; • Experienced liaison with Client and Consultants, suppliers and subcontractors; • Well-versed in Prime/General Contractor Health & Safety requirements, as well as site administration and record-keeping procedures; • Knowledge of standard project management software (Word, Excel, Access, MSProject, Estimating software, etc.); • Proven project management experience; • Very good knowledge of the civil construction market; • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; • Highly motivated; • Ability to work in a collegial environment; • Available for business travel and extended working hours when required; • Strong people skills and team player
