Job Description:
Environmental Engineer - Senior (1935)
The successful candidate will help lead a group of environmental professionals in the assessment and remediation of soil and groundwater impacted sites in the oil and gas sector. Specifically, the successful candidate will provide technical direction for the management and design of environmental site investigations and remediation programs with a focus on sites affected by hydrocarbons (diesel, gasoline, crude oil etc), salts and metals.
Responsibilities:
The successful will direct the application of advanced methods/techniques to problem solving and assessments and must demonstrate direct experience with the design of remedial systems including soil vapour extraction, bioventing, dual phase vacuum extraction, free phase hydrocarbon recovery, hydraulic containment, pump and treat, and biological treatment and chemical oxidation systems.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to team building and will provide senior review, direction and training to junior and intermediate staff as well as maintaining responsibility for meeting financial performance goals and participating in the development of the business strategies, hiring and mentoring of staff and developing and leading project-specific health and safety initiatives (incident management, planned job observation etc.).
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate must be able to work well in a team environment and will be required to apply solid technical skills to wide variety of site conditions. The successful candidate should possess:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology or a relevant degree in Applied Environmental Science
• Polished reporting and communication skills
• Academic qualifications which give the candidate eligibility for professional registration in Alberta
• A minimum of 10 years of relevant project experience
• Thorough understanding of Canadian Environmental Legislation. Experience with Alberta Environment Tier 1 and 2 Guideline and Energy Resource Conservation Board Directives an asset
You will be expected to adhere to safe working practices both in the field and in the office. The nature of the field work associated with the position will require the following:
• Working in a team environment and alone at sites across Alberta;
• The ability to bend, lift and carry field equipment, up to 50 lbs; and
• The ability to travel and work in unpredictable/varied weather conditions including the ability to hike on and around uneven and sloped terrain.
